Sightseeing Spot
Komachi Street
The street starts from Kamakura station East exit to Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu. About 250 souvenir and food shops are lined up. It is the best place when you visit Kamakura.
Yuigahama Swimming Beach
It is 890m long beach. All ages come and enjoy the place and many "Beach Houses" are lined up at the beachside every year.
Inamuragasaki
It is a cape located Southwest area of Kamakura. You can enjoy the view of Fuji mountain, Enoshima and Sagami Bay, which is nominated to the "Best 50 views of Kanagawa". The sunset time is the best to enjoy the view.
Kamakura Nanakuchi
Kamakura is surrounded by mountains. People had to make a way for transportation which is later called Kamakura Nanakuchi. For now, you can hike the road.
Ofuna Kannon
It is located 10 minute-walk from JR Ofuna station. The 25m tall Great Buddha stands at Ofuna Kannon temple. People come and pray for their health and childbirth.
Genjiyama Park
It is a natural park in Kamakura. People come and see cherry blossom in Spring. It has a hike rode which leads to Minamoto no Yoritomo statue or North Kamakura Kotokuin.
Kamakura Bungakukan
It is a museum which displays literary mens' letter or drafts who are from Kamakura. The building looks like one of from the book and the gardening is attraction as well.
Kamakura Kokuhokan
The museum was opened in 1914, has been displaying a much of the artistic and cultural property. The displays were affected by old era of China, therefore, felt like being multi-cultural arts.
Kamakura Noh Butai
It was established to promote and spread out Nohgaku culture. For beginners, some stages have simultaneous explanation in Japanese and English.The place has displays of costumes and masks of Nohgaku.
Enoshima
It is an island of Kanagawa prefecture and good place for any ages. You can enjoy visiting Enoshima temple, having food such as whitebait bowl, climbing Sea Candle and enjoying Samuel Cocking Garden. If you have stamina, please try to visit the opposite side of the island. There you can have the beautiful view of Sagami Bay which was nominated to "Best 50 views of Kanagawa Prefecture".
Temples and shrines
Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu
In 1063, Minamoto no Yoriyoshi built Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu in Yuigahama. He prayed for victory of a war and after the war, he built it to express the appreciation for the god. Later, Minamoto no Yoritomo moved the temple to Kamakura. The place gradually become center of the city. The red color of the temple is one of the attractions. Sumo match and Bugaku stage which Yoritomo used to love still has been held as event.
Hasedera
It is built in 736, very famous temple in Kamakura. The height 9.18m is one of the highest Great Buddha made by wood in Japan. Inside of the temple, flowers are always bloomed thorough the year. Especially in June and July, more than 40 species of hydrangea are bloomed.
Houkokuji
It was established in 1334. Approximately 2000 bamboos make the place strong and beautiful. Please relax at "Kyukoan" where is nominated to Michelin Green Guide Japan.
Kotokuin
Inside of Kotokuin, there is a Great Buddha which is height of 11.3m and weight of 121t. It is a symbol of Kamakura, has been keeping the looks of the ages ago.
Zeniarai Benzaiten Ugafuku Shrine
It is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo was told "If you pray with water here, you will win the war" in his dream. Later, Minamoto no Tokiyori prayed their prosperity by washing their money at this shrine. That is why now that people wash money to pray their flourish and happiness.
Sugimoto Temple
It is the oldest temple in Kamakura which is established in 743. Stairs which is covered with moss is popular spot of this temple and many people come to take photos.
Experience
Nohgaku
Wearing costume, Playing Nohgaku and the instruments are lectured by Nohgaku player.
Kamakura Bori
It is a type of making dishes, Curb wood to decorate the dish and put on lacquer on it. You can experience it at Kamakura Bori Arts Museum.
Zazen
Zazen is held to organize and concentrate on minds. You can experience it at Tokeiji, Chokenji, Enkakuji, Hokokuji and Ofuna Kannonji.
Shakyo
While originally being applied to pray and memorial ages ago, now that people enjoy shakyo to be released from their stress. You can experience at Myokoji, Hokaiji, Myohonji, Hozenin and Seirenji.
Howa
Monks tell us the studies of Buddha to understand their way to think. You can experience it at Myokoji and Seifukuji.
Event
Kamakura Festival
It has been held in every Spring from 1959, you can watch Yabusame which is played archery with riding horses. (※Cancellation was decided in 2020）
Kamakura Fireworks Event
It has been held every year in Summer. Some fireworks are thrown into the sea, people enjoy the view and it is the best attraction of the event. （※Cancellation was decided in 2020）
Reitaisai, Shinkosai, Yabusame Shinji
It is the biggest annual festival of Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu which is held between 14th September and 16th September every year. People visit to enjoy Mikoshi, Kencha-kai and Yabusame.
Funa Oroshi
It is held to pray for big catch through the year. Fisher men get together at the bay and throw Mandarin oranges to the sea. They compare the Mandarin oranges to gold and pray they will come back as big catch.
Food
Shojin Ryori
Monks do not take meat or fish because of their belief of Buddha. Shojin Ryori is food for them and you can experience it at "Hachi-no-ki" restaurant or Daihonzan Myoko temple.
Hato Sable
It is very popular, old sweets in Kamakura which was born in 1894. People have loved the pigeon looks and the butter flavor.
Kurumikko
It is baked sweets which is made from caramel butter and walnuts. It has been nominated to the best awards at sweets competition in Kanagawa prefecture.
Hot Springs & Spa
Shimizu-yu
At this public bath, you can feel and remind of the old style of Showa period. The tiles of walls and roofs are very impressive.
Inamuragasaki Onsen
The hot spring is popular with the effect for beautiful skin and recovery of fatigue. You can enjoy the view of Fuji mountain and Enohsima from the place.
Enoshima Island Spa
You can enjoy onsen which gushes out from 1,500m under the ground. There are 10 kinds of spa pool, original aroma, treatment salon and a dining restaurant where offers spa cuisine.
